Describe a "first day" in your life.
The first day I read "the".
Mom sat with me at the little yellow table in the kitchen, the table that had one leg that kinda buckled under if you hit it too hard. She had a little colorful book, about five or six pages long, and pointed to the little box that showed where the new words would be introduced.
"What does this word say?" she asked. "Can you sound it out?"
As I looked at the word, I remember having the suspicion that this was a trick question. Things, I thought to myself, I probably not what they appear to be.
But I gave it a try, nonetheless. "Tuh- huh - ehh!" I pronounced.
Then she revealed to me that it actually said "THE".
I remember this moment distinctly.

Listen!
Listen. Write about what you hear, right now.
An airplane slowly pushing through the clouds.
Trucks swishing over wet pavement.
The air conditioner humming, fading out, then gasping to life again.
The walls breathing.

Modis
Consider the "WORD VERIFICATION" word at the bottom of your comment window. Create a definition for it, and use it in a sentence.
Modis
A Latin word, meaning "method of doing, way of, or habitual pattern".
"The man refused to respond to the woman. This was his modis; wait until she was sure he wasn't listening, and then explode upon her with some epithet of hate."

Fascinating!
Write about something interesting that happened this weekend.
I went to lunch with a bunch of friends. One of them was playfully teasing the other and, unable to read or respond appropriately to social cues, took it too far. The other one got offended and angry. It was a tense moment but gradually it relaxed; however, this happens too often for it to be fun. It is very uncomfortable. I did my best to keep the conversation going.

What past clothing trend do you think should never come back in style?
Shoulder pads.
Shoulder pads need to DIE.

Realistic by what definition?
Write about three realistic goals you'd like to achieve in your lifetime.
1. I will travel the world (even more than I already have!) with my fiance after we get married.
2. I will write wonderful books about history and psychology and project management.
3. I will be an inspiration.

What modern technology would you have trouble living without?
Of course, there are millions of innovations that are taken for granted such as cars and all the technology integrated into those, microwaves, and so on. But the one that jumps to my mind immediately is my cellphone! Without it, I feel so disconnected from Gary because I text him constantly throughout the day, even when he is at work and can't read them until later.

My own shoes
What pair of shoes in your closet best represents who you are?
My boots. They are soft, brown, almost to my knees. They zip up the inside and lace all the way up the front, very funky and unique like me. They are very soft on the inside like me =) They look kinda cool sometimes and kinda dorky sometimes, like me. They are unusual and many people think they are interesting. They have raised soles, kinda raised heels, and leave a fun imprint in the snow, but I hardly ever wear them when it's wet out since they are kinda soft, not leather. I sprayed them with a protectant when I first bought them, but I should do that again. I need to maintain their protection.

War Veteran
Write about a war veteran you have known of, or known personally.
A war hero that I know is Devin. I am sure he has withheld from us many of the brave things he has done, because he is very humble and doesn't think many of the things he does are that great, when really they are. He is a hard worker and my older sister's boyfriend. Devin is a good brother to me and my sisters and Gary, and he is a good friend to everybody (except jerks! He has a low tolerance for them!). Devin served as I recall, three tours in Iraq, and I recall the first time he showed me the photos. We were in Northway Aviation, the flight school where we met each other and where he is now a CFI (MEI too I think). We sat at my ex-instructor's desk and went through many photos on his laptop and I was quite impressed. I am grateful for guys like Devin!

Memorable Party!
Write about a memorable party or gathering you attended.
I have many, many fond and beloved memories from parties at Joy's house, almost too many to even choose from. One of the most dramatic was the night that Joy's mummie hosted a "pie party", where the boys splattered the girls with "chocolate" cream pies ... oh, how funny it was, with royal fights breaking out with cans of whipped cream and buckets of chocolate sauce; it ended with us all getting hosed down and it was freezing cold, early fall possibly. I remember I tried to give Gary a hug, but he wouldn't let me because of all the slop all over me! I think we were liking each other a lot then.

My Favorite Things
Where is your favorite place in your home?
I love my bed most of all, because it is my safest place. It is sheltered overhead because it is a bunk bed, and I really like that. My clothes and school bags and everything I own are all within arm's reach, except the books and clothes that are in my closet. One day, I will enjoy having more room to place my items and arrange all of my beautiful books, instead of just cramming everything into a box by my bed or on a too-small bookshelf.

Career path
If you had the opportunity to write as a career, what would you write?
You shouldn't expect ME to answer this in 60 seconds! To boil it all down, it would be the joy of my life to write complex psychological thrillers. Secondarily, I would write Christian, Biblical-based psychotherapy manuals.

First pet
"Describe the first pet you remember having."
My first pet was a little beta fish named "Blueboy" (he was blue). My grandma and I went to the pet store for my birthday and she bought him for me; I was like, Won't mom be mad? will she care? Grandma just said "No she won't mind." I kept him in a glass vase with a plant in the top and rocks in the bottom. I kept it on the kitchen windowsill and green algae started to grow inside the vase; Blueboy's health gradually declined and he perished after a few months or so. Once when I was cleaning out his cage and transferring him from the vase to a cup, he flopped out onto the counter. I scrambled to scoop him back up screaming No no no!! I finally got him back into the cup where he shakily swam around with a torn tail. He seemed to recover just fine.

A child
What effect has a child, whether yours or someone else's, had on your life?
Having my little sister Karissa around has motivated me to make a conscious effort to make more time for family things. She is 4 years old and always wants to see me, play with me, read with me. Knowing that she will grow up and one day not be so interested in those things makes me want to invest in them now! Knowing that she will always say either, "my sister didn't spend time with me" or "my sister spent time with me" motivates me to make the right choices NOW.

"Who's got the time to journal daily? You do.
1. Read the daily writing prompt.
2. Push "Play" on the timer on the right side of the screen.
3. Spend 60 seconds or less writing a response to the daily prompt."
I am sure I will not be posting DAILY, but I will post frequently. Her writing prompts are engaging and thought-inspiring!
